The “Cradle” Design: Because this loop is a single anchor point centrally positioned on the bottom of the tongue, the two safety chains are fed through it and run out to the left and right sides of your tow vehicle’s hitch receiver. This positioning creates the Department of Transportation (DOT) required “cradle” effect under the hitch ball. If the primary coupler pop off the ball, the tongue falls directly onto the crossed chains rather than slamming into the highway asphalt.
